FHE Adventures

So this week for FHE we decided we’d go to a pumpkin patch to choose our pumpkins. Adam had never been to one before and we thought we'd start a new tradition. We knew of a good one down in Rigby and since we only had so much time till our next feeding we rushed down to try to pick out some pumpkins. Once we got there we put William in a stroller (since he was sleeping) and headed out on our grand adventure in the pumpkin patch. I call it a grand adventure because that’s what it turned out to be...
As we started into the pumpkin patch we realized that the stroller was going to have a rough time in the soft, viney dirt/mud (as it bounced vigorously and got stuck every 5 seconds), but we continued to plow forward because we really had no other choice (we couldn’t just leave him somewhere randomly--at least, that's what Adam told me lol). That turned out to be the first clue that this was going to be more adventurous than we thought.
Adam decided he wanted the biggest pumpkin he could find *of course* and we heard they were all the way at the back (naturally). SO we had to venture out there to see—second clue. Adam finally found his nice big pumpkin (although still not as big as he wanted), and I found a nice tall one for me. We also grabbed a perfect little round one for William while we were at it and shoved it in the bottom of the stroller. Then, after some fun pictures of the experience, we decided it was time to get back while it was still barely light enough for us to see--third clue. What we didn’t think of was how we were going to carry two 20+lb pumpkins AND push a stroller at the same time… Adam didn’t want to make two trips (and frankly, neither did I), so he carried his pumpkin in one arm and pulled the stroller with the other (bumping along behind him)--fourth clue.
Then (here comes the climax) faster than you can say, "I’m struggling to carry a twenty pound pumpkin Iguess I better go to the gym soon," 6 things happened.
1) I turn to see the stroller start to tip, as the wheels on one side went over a particularly large bump.
2) I quickly shifted my pumpkin to my right arm and reached out next to me to catch the car seat I thought would fall out of the stroller.
3) I noticed Adam had it all under control, so I ditched my efforts to save it and now swung my arm back around to try to catch my pumpkin which was now starting to slide out of my increadably weak right arm.
4) As my left hand* (thats another clue) reached the top of the arch my arm was making I felt my wedding ring—which had become loose on my finger from the cold—start to slip forward off my finger. *GASP!!
5) I curled my fingers to keep it on as I continued my motion to catch my pumpkin, but my effort failed and my ring flew off my finger somewhere onto the vine and pumpkin-strewn dirt path around us. *DOUBLE GASP!!
6) It all the sudden had become really dark.
I regrettably told Adam what had happened and we both dropped our pumpkins where we stood and started to look around. Unfortunately the whole tipping incident woke William up who decided now was a great time to cry. We started looking in the general area I thought it flew. We were using our phone lights to aid us in our search, and my hopelessness was growing. After ten minutes we decided we needed divine help so we prayed to be able to find it (and soon so we could find it and get home before I had to feed William). I felt like we needed more light to even make finding it possible, so I ran to get flashlights from the farmer who he offered to help. We were all out there looking, and soon after he came he found it in an area off to the side of where I thought it would be—Answer to our prayers!
We thanked him, paid for our pumpkins, and were able to make it home to feed William right on time. So it turned out to be an exciting FHE. We had an activity of picking pumpkins and a lesson on the power of prayer. The most eventful, fun, and stressful FHE we’ve had all year, and a great start to a family tradition (hope losing my wedding ring wont become part of it!!)
